EuroHealthNet successfully closed its 2014 General Council and elected its new President, Mrs Nicoline Tamsma. The new President underlined the growing interest in joining the Partnership. “The quality of our membership is our strength. It is great to see we are able to attract an increasingly diverse group of partners who share our commitment to promoting equitable health and health promoting systems. It will enrich mutual learning opportunities for our members and further enhance the contribution we can make to international, national and local health equity objectives.”, Mrs Tamsma stated.
EuroHealthNet’s members and partners discussed the Country Specific Recommendations that were recently published within the Framework of the EU Semester, as well as the guidance offered by the Social Investment Package . They expored how this can be used as a tool to promote work on the social determinants of health, develop integrated health system approaches and, ultimately, contribute to health equity between and within EU countries.
Senior representatives from the European Commission (DG SANCO) and WHO Europe presented their strategies and workplans, and invited EuroHealthNet’s members and partners to continue their efforts to improve health in Europe
The Partnership welcomed the following new members: Tuscany region, Riga City Council Welfare Department, National Public Health Agency of Sweden, the Västra Götaland Region, the Public Health Agency of Cataluña, Norwegian University of Science and Technology and the Institute of Public Health in Macedonia.
