Today, EuroHealthNet launches the 2nd edition of its Health Equity Week, in Brussels. This week of activities will aim at discussing the strengths, weaknesses, challenges and opportunities for future action to improve health equity, within and between European Countries, in times of social and economic crisis.

Equity Week 2012 brings together policy makers from the EU, national and regional level. Leading practitioners from the health and social field and representatives from the research community will determine the best way forward to improve health outcomes through effective policy, practice and action.

The week opens on Tuesday 29th May with a Conference that focused on how to achieve effective collaboration across sectors to improve health and well-being in the EU.

This will be followed by EuroHealthNet’s annual General Assembly on Wednesday 30th May. Linked to the General Assembly, capacity building workshops for EuroHealthNet members will take place.

The week will end on Thursday 31st May with a high level open event titled "The Road to 2020 and Sustainable Health Systems". Representatives from the European Commission and Health Experts will debate on how investing in healthy societies, equitable access to health services, and in capacity are essential to the right re-orientation and sustainability of health systems.
