The County Council has regional responsibility for work in the area of Public Health and Health Care working together with The Karolinska Institutet School of Public Health (KSPH) that was founded in 2009. Stockholm County Council has given KSPH assignments to develop knowledge, methods and implementation regarding health promotion and prevention.

Health in Country

The Karolinska Institutet School of Public Health monitors health development for the Stockholm County Council.  With departments like Epidemiology, Social Medicine and Health Care Development knowledge is gathered in relation to risk and wellbeing factors and with regard to health in relation to various social conditions. This is of decisive importance for the planning of health-care provisions and collaborating with other societal organs. Trends in health care in the county are regularly followed-up and evaluated and an annual public health report is published.

Projects & Programmes

The Stockholm County Council is involved in many both longterm and shortterm projects. The County is also working within the EU-system, the WHO and in bilateral projects. In 2007 a mapping exercise showed that the predominant international role is being expert e.g. in the development of international standards of medical equipment materials, in the writing of green and white papers for the EU Commission on Mental Health etc. The centre is also involved in EU funded projects on tobacco prevention and sexual and reproductive health.

The Stockholm County Council publishes regularly news, reports and information on it s website www.folkhalsoguiden.se. Most publications are in Swedish language but some central documents are also presented in English.
