Tomorrow, 14th November, is World Diabetes Day. Diabetes is nowadays considered a global epidemic, affecting 9% of the adult population globally in 2014. In 2012, it was the direct cause of 1.5 million deaths and more than 80% of these deaths occurred in low- and middle-income countries. The World Health Organization estimates that diabetes will be the seventh leading cause of death in 2030.
