EuroHealthNet announces leadership for its new strategy

EuroHealthNet, the Partnership of organisations working for health improvement and tackling inequalities, has announced a new leadership to take it forward into its new strategic initiative 2014 - 2020. In January the former network re-organised into a new Partnership offering various opportunities for participating in new ways on building knowledge, developing capacities to act and influencing policies. EuroHealthNet has recently been awarded a four year framework contract with the European Commission within its EASI programme.

Today, its Executive has confirmed Caroline Costongs as Managing Director with overall responsibilities to lead EuroHealthNet. Meanwhile Clive Needle will continue as a fellow director but will focus on policy and advocacy priorities. Three managers have also been appointed to head the three new operational ''pillars'' working on detailed projects and services for partners:

  • Ingrid Stegeman will manage Health Promotion Europe (HPE)
  • Claudia Marinetti will manage the Centre for Innovation, Research & Implementation (CIRI)
  • Stecy Yghemonos will manage the Platform for Health & Social Equity (PHASE)

The Partnership will continue to operate from its Brussels office in rue de la Loi, and a new Executive Board will be elected later this year by the governing General Council. More information is being placed online via or

President David Pattison announced the new leadership, commenting ''this is an exciting time for EuroHealthNet, the changes we are announcing today reaffirm our commitment to our members and to the wider European community to actively work to improve health and reduce inequalities. Caroline and Clive have been at the heart of our development and their new roles will strengthen EuroHealthNet now and for the future.''

Caroline Costongs is a health promotion specialist and has managed EuroHealthNet projects and operations since 1999, becoming Deputy Director in 2009. She said "I am grateful for the trust of the Executive Board in my ability to take forward the running of the Partnership for improving health, equity and wellbeing in Europe. This change leads to a more efficient organisation and frees up the time for Clive to respond effectively to the policy and advocacy challenges we are facing in our work".

Clive Needle has been director since 2000 and welcomed the changes: ''I am delighted Caroline will take on this leading role, which I have hoped for some time. I can better serve our causes by using my experience on policy roles and I am more committed than ever about tackling the inequities harming people everywhere. I believe Caroline will prove an innovative, knowledgeable, and highly effective leader in this exciting period of development."
