Belgian Presidency: AMR Conference
Antimicrobial resistance is one of the greatest public health threats of our time. The presidency will focus its efforts on combating antimicrobial resistance in a cross-sectoral approach, embracing the “One World One Health” principle, addressing human, animal and environmental health. This effort will be marked by a conference organised in collaboration with the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), Sciensano and the Federal Public Service on Public Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment (FPS HFCSE) from 6th to 8th May 2024. The first two days of the conference will be an ECDC-Sciensano joint meeting on combatting healthcare-associated infections and antimicrobial resistance in a One world One health perspective. The third day of the conference will be a high-level meeting on antimicrobial resistance with a focus on the recent Council Recommendation on EU AMR Targets and the research and development of new antibiotics.
