2 – 3 May 2024
The Egmont Palace, Place du Petit Sablon / Kleine Zavel 8 Brussels, Belgium
The Belgian EU Presidency Council of the European Union will host a knowledge-sharing event which aims to facilitate the implementation of the European Child Guarantee.
The European Child Guarantee is a European Recommendation aiming to create more equal opportunities for vulnerable children. In order to implement the Recommendation, the Member States have nominated their coordinators and are preparing national action plans, covering the period until 2030.
To achieve this, 4 working areas have been defined:
- Obtaining effective and free access to quality education, including setting up early childhood care, educational and school activities and the guarantee of a healthy meal each school day;
- Obtaining effective and free access to quality healthcare;
- Guaranteeing access to sufficient and healthy nutrition, particularly through the European school fruit, vegetables and milk scheme
- Guaranteeing effective access to adequate housing.
Objectives of the event
The event has a dual objective: firstly, to give key players the opportunity to analyse the work already completed and what remains to be done to achieve the objectives set, and secondly, to provide coordinators with a platform to share their knowledge in the implementation of the European Child Guarantee.
The first day will be dedicated to a review of the situation, while the second day will be focused on discussions between the coordinators of the European Child Guarantee, the European Commission, and key players on the ground.
