European Health Forum Gastein 2024
The European Health Forum Gastein (EHFG) 2024 will be held from September 24-27 in hybrid format. Since its foundation in 1998, the EHFG has developed into a key policy platform, bringing together politicians, senior decision-makers, community members, and experts in the field of health and beyond.
The theme for this year, ‘Shifting sands of health – democracy, demographics, digitalisation,’ highlights digital transformation and global health challenges through collaborative, multi-sectoral efforts and evidence-based solutions. Key discussions will focus on integrating digital health technologies and promoting sustainable healthcare practices to enhance public health outcomes.
EuroHealthNet will be involved in two sessions:
- Session 7, An unhealthy profit – tackling obstacles to achieving the NCD targets, organised by WHO/Europe, will reflect on how political practices of commercial actors have shaped the development and implementation of public health policies in Europe, with a focus on tobacco, alcohol, and nutrition. It will discuss the efforts of the public health community to equip policymakers with the necessary skills to respond to the practices and arguments of unhealthy commodity industries.
- Session 23, Europe’s unhealthy and unjust food systems, organised by EuroHealthNet, and supported by the European Consumer Organisation, the European Public Health Nutrition Alliance and the University of Heidelberg, will explore the need for systemic policies to promote healthier food environments by addressing the overconsumption of ultra-processed foods and improving access to healthy nutrition. The session will emphasize shifting the focus from individual behaviour to implementing comprehensive changes in the food system to combat non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
