EuroHealthNet Country Exchange Visit: Improving health for highly vulnerable populations (Members only meeting)
24-25 November 2025
Athens, Greece
Health inequalities remain a significant challenge across Europe, particularly for those on the margins of society, such as Roma communities and other highly vulnerable groups. Structural inequalities, discrimination, socioeconomic challenges, and cultural factors contribute to these disparities.
EuroHealthNet member, the PROLEPSIS Institute, will host this Country Exchange Visit, which will bring together representatives of national and regional public health agencies from across Europe to explore how to better capture and act on the lived experiences of vulnerable populations in health policy and practice.
Participants will:
- Examine the specific health challenges and barriers in accessing health and care services for the most marginalised communities.
- Share practices, policies, and programmes aimed at reducing health inequalities and improving the accessibility of health and care services. Discuss experiences with and the impact of these initiatives.
- Assess and strengthen mechanisms within health authorities and organisations to involve marginalised communities in policymaking, decision-making, and implementation processes.
- Engage with professionals and experts working with marginalised groups, including Roma communities, and gain an understanding of the realities of fieldwork and programme implementation.
- Visit two Roma settlements around Athens to gain first-hand insight into their living conditions and healthcare challenges, and existing support structures.
Country Exchange Visits are exclusive members-only events for senior staff to meet and exchange on shared challenges and provide intelligence. This event is free to attend, but places are limited. Travel and accommodation will be reimbursed for one delegate per organisation until the maximum number of participants is reached.
