EuroHealthNet responds to consultation on the Strategy for the rights of persons with disabilities
The Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2021-2030 (the Strategy) is the EU’s main policy document on disability. It describes a set of objectives and actions for the implementation of EU disability policy and aims to improve the lives of persons with disabilities across the EU and beyond. The European Commission opened a public consultation to gather evidence and views to inform the 2026 update of the Strategy.
Responding to the consultation, EuroHealthNet underlined that persons with disabilities still face significant difficulties. Over the last few years, progress in the fields of work, education, and the accessibility of buildings, transport and services has stalled. In other areas, including inclusion, equality, and access to healthcare, the situation actually worsened.
To meaningfully improve the situation of persons with disabilities, the EU should prioritise action in the areas of housing, work and rehabilitation, independent living, health and mental health, and social protection.

The full inclusion of persons with disabilities is one of the 20 principles of the European Pillar of Social Rights, which sets out rights and principles to create more sustainable and inclusive European societies. Our Flashcard Tool explores how each of those principles can be used to advance public health at the regional and national levels.
