EuroHealthNet responds to mid-term review of the Digital Education Action Plan
The Digital Education Action Plan (2021-2027) (DEAP) is a renewed European Union policy initiative that sets out a common vision of high-quality, inclusive and accessible digital education in Europe, and aims to support the adaptation of the education and training systems of Member States to the digital age. It is a call for greater cooperation at European level on digital education to address the challenges and opportunities of the COVID-19 pandemic, and to present opportunities for the education and training community (teachers, students), policy makers, academia and researchers on national, EU and international level.
EuroHealthNet has responded to the DEAP mid-term evaluation by submitting a position paper, recognising its impacts and achievements so far. The position paper also proposes several ways in which the DEAP can be further strengthened in the next phase of implementation:
- Ensure that digital education policies and interventions adopt an equity-focused proportionate universalism approach, underpinned by robust co-creation mechanisms that directly engage children and youth.
- Ensure a stronger focus to assess and address the digital skills gaps, which exacerbate inequalities particularly among vulnerable and marginalised groups.
- Pay more attention to the improvement of the digital skills of adults – both within and outside the labour market.
- Digital transformation plans need to ensure that digital infrastructures are available, accessible and affordable for education institutions in rural areas and deprived urban areas, which typically suffer from ICT under-investment.
