EuroHealthNet responds to the Commission’s consultation on the European Education Area (EEA)
EuroHealthNet has responded to the European Commission’s interim policy consultation on the European Education Area (EEA), the strategic framework for European cooperation in education and training. Established through the Council Resolution of February 2021, the framework strives to create a more resilient and inclusive educational environment across Europe.
The aim of this survey is to gather insights and evaluate the progress and effectiveness of the EEA. Specifically, the survey seeks to assess how well the EEA’s priorities are being met, understand the challenges faced by education and training systems in the EU, evaluate the success of various European cooperation activities in education and training, gather opinions on what more can be done to support and enhance European cooperation in these areas, and collect feedback on the coherence of EEA initiatives with other EU, national, and international efforts and funding.
EuroHealthNet contributed to the consultation on the EEA by emphasising the systemic barriers faced by education and training which prevent the integration of health-promoting school/whole-school approaches to health in school cultures and structures. The EEA makes the important connection to wellbeing in schools and academic outcomes, prioritising whole-school approaches to health in educational settings and surrounding policy environments. Better collaboration across sectors at local, national and EU level is needed, to enhance sectoral outcomes through funding opportunities, knowledge exchange, capacity-building of policymakers and experts.
Through the Schools4Health project, EuroHealthNet seeks to make the links between health, education and other sectors, to provide renewed impetus to health promoting school approaches and call for the right policy conditions that help embed wellbeing in and around schools.
