Plenary Session hosted by EuroHealthNet: Tackling Health Inequalities in Times of Crisis
Thursday, 14 November, 10:30 – 11:30 local time / 11:30 – 12:30 CET
Update: watch the recording of EuroHealthNet’s plenary here.
As Europe is in a state of permacrisis, facing cost-of-living and housing challenges, climate change and social unrest, health inequalities are deepening. Organized by EuroHealthNet, this plenary session will explore how these adversities impact health and wellbeing across Europe and why urgent, targeted action across sectors is essential. Moderated by EuroHealthNet Director Caroline Costongs and Cristina Abreu Santos from Portugal’s Instituto Nacional de Saúde Doutor Ricardo Jorge, this session will set the stage for understanding the complex socio-economic landscape that fuels health inequalities.
Keynote speakers include Professor Fran Baum from the University of Adelaide, who will share insights on health equity in times of crisis, and Katarina Ivanković Knežević of the European Commission, who will discuss EU initiatives on social rights and poverty reduction. Didier Jourdan, UNESCO Chair on Global Health and Education, and Professor Jill Litt from the Barcelona Institute for Global Health, will provide perspectives on educational and environmental solutions for reducing inequalities. Adding to the excitement, a video presentation from a mystery guest will bring a unique perspective to the conversation, creating an element of surprise and inspiration.
