Laying the Foundation for Healthy and Active Ageing: The Role of Schools in Promoting Lifelong Wellbeing
On 16 January 2025, the South Denmark European Office (SDEO) will host a conference focusing on the vital role schools play in fostering lifelong health and wellbeing. This event is part of the ERASMUS+ project School Health in Europe 4 Active and Healthy Ageing (SHE4AHA), which demonstrates how the Health Promoting School (HPS) approach can support healthier, more active ageing starting from childhood.
The SHE4AHA project builds on the 2021 European Commission Green Paper on Ageing, emphasizing early interventions as a foundation for a healthier and more resilient future. Over the course of the project, 15 pilot schools across Europe have implemented innovative strategies to integrate health promotion into their daily practices. This conference will highlight the lessons learned from these efforts.
The conference will bring together stakeholders, including the European Commission, school managers, educators, and health professionals to explore:
- Practical examples of the Health Promoting School approach in action.
- How schools can engage children, parents, and colleagues in health promotion strategies.
- Panel discussions and recommendations to shape future policy on active and healthy ageing.
