Responding to call for evidence for the EU Global Health Resilience Initiative
The EU Global Health Resilience Initiative (GHRI) aims to strengthen the resilience of global health systems, delivering lasting impact worldwide. It will highlight the EU’s vision and added value by shaping a more equitable and effective global health architecture; supporting strong, country-led health systems that deliver essential services, including through local manufacturing of health products; reinforcing health security at all levels, and tackling mis/disinformation to strengthen trust in science.
EuroHealthNet has responded to a consultation for the Initiative, welcoming the opportunity it creates to strengthen prevention-oriented, equitable and climate-resilient approaches to global health system strengthening. It recommends that the GHRI
- places health equity and the social determinants of health at its core
- recognises climate change as a cross-cutting driver of health risk
- promotes European social and community-based innovations alongside biomedical expertise
- ensures strong multilateral cooperation with the WHO within a coherent EU policy framework
By aligning its internal and external policies around these priorities, the EU can position the GHRI as a credible and forward-looking contribution to a more resilient global health architecture.
