The Contribution of Health Promotion to Democracy: Fostering Participation, Equity, and Intersectoral Action in Local Governance (EuroHealthNet speaking)
Organised as part of JA PreventNCD, the webinar will explore how health promotion can strengthen democracy by fostering participation, equity, and intersectoral collaboration in local governance. The event will highlight how community action for health empowers citizens, enhances decision-making, and creates healthier environments. Experts will discuss the role of health diplomacy, social justice, and policy action in tackling non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and shaping more democratic societies.
EuroHealthNet will contribute to the discussion, with Caroline Costongs, the organisation’s director, presenting how addressing the commercial determinants of health at the local level can serve as a cornerstone for democratic engagement. Other key speakers include Ilona Kickbusch, who will discuss health diplomacy and governance and Jennie Popay, who will discuss community action for social and health justice.
