Towards a strong, sustainable and healthy Europe
We are working towards a future where Europe and its people thrive. A future where the right to quality health care is ensured, along with access to health promoting services, and healthy living and working environments. A future where health inequalities and their causes are addressed effectively.
Thank you to all our members, partners, and collaborators who are helping to make this vision a reality.
2022: Promoting health and ensuring care across the life course
In 2021, EuroHealthNet launched its 5-year Strategic Development Plan, which defines the themes we will focus on from now until 2026. We were also awarded a 4-year operating grant from the European Commission’s Directorate General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, under the EU Programme for Employment and Social Innovation (EaSI).
In 2022, our EaSI policy focus will be ‘Promoting health and ensuring care: Redefining the value of care and skills across the life course for a strong Social Europe’. We will look at initiatives such as the EU long-term care and essential services initiatives, the design of an EU Care Strategy, and the EU Child Guarantee’s National Action Plans. We also work with the OSH Framework on health at work and on the health-social skill mix continuum under the Skills Pact. We will support the European Pillar of Social Rights action plan.
Health Inequalities Portal
Addressing health inequalities will always be at the core of EuroHealthNet’s work. In 2021, we launched the new European Health Inequalities Portal, an information hub covering health inequalities data, policies, research, and practices. It maps the organisations and actions happening across Europe focusing on health equity. This year the portal will continue to grow and develop, for example with the results from the Joint Action on Health Equity in Europe (JAHEE).

Europe’s recovery from the pandemic
The way Europe manages its economic and social recovery from the pandemic will affect people’s health. EuroHealthNet will continue to monitor the roll-out of recovery measures. We will analyse how funding and financing can be used most effectively to ensure a long-term, sustainable, and equitable recovery.
In 2021, we explored how the EU and its Member States are using recovery-oriented funds and whether they will sustainably strengthen health, equity, and well-being. Read ‘Recovery and Resilience Plans: drivers to promote health and wellbeing in the European Union?’
We also published a comprehensive overview of funds and programmes in the new EU budget 2021- 2027, and their relevance for health. Read ‘Seizing the opportunities for a healthy recovery – Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027 and NextGenerationEU’.
Collaborating with WHO/Europe
In 2021, the WHO’s Regional Office for Europe and EuroHealthNet signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing a legal basis for collaboration on health promotion, health equity, investments for health, sustainable development and prosperity for people and planet.
In 2022 we will take this collaboration further. We will support the WHO Pan-European Mental Health Coalition as well as the Flagship initiative on Behavioural and Cultural Insights.
