Consultation response new European climate resilience framework
To respond to growing climate challenges, the European Commission is preparing a new and impactful European integrated framework for climate resilience. Its key objective will be to drive transformational change to make Europe significantly better prepared for and more resilient to climate impacts.
With this call, all stakeholders have an opportunity to provide input for the upcoming European climate resilience framework, which is scheduled for adoption in Q4-2026.
In an extensive response, EuroHealthNet called for the following three policy action to best improv risk awareness and preparedness for climate change impacts:
- Strengthen early warning and surveillance systems by integrating climate, environmental, health and sociodemographic data to better anticipate heat-related risks, air pollution impacts, and infectious disease outbreaks.
- Systematically monitor climate-related health inequalities through disaggregated data and Health Impact Assessments to ensure adaptation and mitigation measures protect vulnerable groups.
- Empower local authorities and communities with targeted adaptation measures, including sector-specific heat
guidelines, investments in high-risk areas, and community-based engagement to improve preparedness and response capacity.
